Epoxy or cementitious grout: which does your specification require?
Both epoxy and cementitious products can be formulated for non-shrink grouting. The useful comparison is their binder type, placement requirements and performance for the particular application.
Epoxy grout
Resin-based systems are available for applications needing specified load transfer, vibration resistance or chemical resistance. They are supplied as components that must be mixed in the manufacturer’s stated proportions.
Review the operating conditions, substrate moisture, permitted pour depth and working time for the selected grade.
Cementitious non-shrink grout
Cement-based grouts use controlled expansion or shrinkage compensation and typically require a measured addition of water. Products are available for base plates, machine foundations and other specified concrete gaps.
Check required early strength, flow consistency, placement thickness and curing requirements against the current data sheet.
Use the consultant-approved product and current UAE technical data sheet when confirming material suitability. Grout names alone do not establish equivalent performance.

Grouting materials for base plates and equipment foundations
A grout enquiry for a steel column base, pump, compressor or machinery foundation should identify the application, gap dimensions and approved product. Requirements can include early strength, flow, vibration resistance and exposure to chemicals. Different grades meet different conditions.

How to estimate the quantity
For a simple rectangular gap, volume in litres = length (m) × width (m) × depth (m) × 1,000. A 1 m × 1 m × 0.05 m gap has a gross volume of 50 litres, before deducting obstructions or allowing for placement waste.
Convert volume to bags or kits using the selected product’s published mixed yield. Bag weight alone does not tell you how many litres of grout it produces.

Is non-shrink grout always cement-based?
No. Non-shrink describes a performance characteristic. Both cementitious and epoxy products can be formulated for non-shrink grouting. Confirm the binder type and grade specified for your project.
Can epoxy grout replace cementitious grout?
A substitution needs a review of the application, required performance, placement conditions and project approval. Send the specified product and proposed alternative for a technical comparison.
Is this the same grout used between tiles?
